Investing in Research
While billions of dollars are spent on the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, these costs pale in comparison to the dollars lost in productivity of adults in the workplace, the potential income of disabled individuals, and the burden of costs to society (estimated at $215 billion per year in direct expenses and lost wages in the US alone).  Medical research institutions, such as the OrthoCarolina Research Institute, must pioneer the development of revolutionary treatments and techniques, innovative therapies, and state-of-the-art healthcare management that offer major benefits in cost-effectiveness and improved outcomes for patients.  Without support for these research efforts, society will continue to spend billions of dollars each year to care for disorders and injuries to the musculoskeletal system.

External support, including financial, human resources (patients, investigators, volunteers), and physical materials, are critical to the Institute’s growth and development, and a major criterion in identifying research opportunities and providing seed money for pilot projects.

Corporate Research Partners
Developing new and innovative medical technologies and improving existing products require on-going collaborations between industry and research organizations.  Orthopedic implant design and manufacturing companies, as well as pharmaceutical companies, frequently contract with the OrthoCarolina Research Institute to conduct clinical trials and scientific studies.   The Institute provides the expertise and resources, is in full compliance with all regulatory laws and guidelines, and maintains the highest ethical standards critical to industrial partnerships.
