Scientific or Clinical Outcomes Studies evaluate both the short and long term success of treatments, procedures and product design. Outcomes data and information are consistently gathered and disseminated to support, or oppose, new methods of treatment, and determine what new technology provides the best treatment options for patients. Outcomes research allows physicians to provide improved patient care through evaluation of new procedures to insure that the treatments provided are the best available, promote cost-effective treatments, and document patient quality of life and satisfaction. All outcomes studies involve FDA approved drugs, devices and procedures are reviewed by an ethical review board.
The OrthoCarolina Research Institute manages and conducts approxiamtely 50 outcomes studies a year in the various orthopedic subspecialties. The results of these research programs are disseminated as presentations at national orthopedic conferences, such as American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, American Shoulder and Elbow Society, Cervical Spine Research Society, and North American Spine Society. Additionally, our research studies are published in scientific, peer-reviewed journals.
