Oscar Miller Day Symposium
Joint Celebration
Summer Internship Program

In keeping with its mission, the Institute shares its research findings with healthcare professionals and patients through various educational forums. The physicians of OrthoCarolina recognize and support both of these events as educational opportunities for orthopedic surgeons, healthcare professionals, and orthopedic patients to share recent scientific advances, state-of-the-art technologies, and plan future research that will give orthopedic patients a chance to live happier, healthier, and more productive lives.

Annual Oscar Miller Day Symposium

The tradition of Oscar Miller Day began in 1980 with the goal of providing a cutting-edge educational opportunity for orthopedists and related practitioners in our region. Over 300 physicians, therapists, vendors, and other healthcare professionals from seven southeastern states annually attend the conference.

The event is held annually to promote medical education and the advancement of orthopaedic research. It is a Continuing Medical Education (CME) accredited event offered through the joint sponsorship of the OrthoCarolina Research Institute and Charlotte Area Health Education Centers (AHEC).

The symposium was designed to examine and discuss new and original research, the latest trends and recent advances, and to encourage informal discussion with experts in the field. A different orthopedic subspeciality is highlighted each year, and internationally recognized guest speakers are invited as faculty members.

The Joint Celebration-Bionic Open Golf Tournament

The primary goal of The Joint Celebration is to raise awareness of the success of total joint replacement surgery and to celebrate a restored quality of life for ‘bionic’ patients (those with total joint replacements). A second important goal of the event is to provide an opportunity to raise funds that will support and continue critical research for the development of improved devices, better outcomes, and reduced healthcare costs. Each year a community seminar free and open to the public is offered. Afternoon activities include a golf tournament filled with ‘bionic’ players, physicians, and sponsors; and a ‘bionic’ Wellness Walk.
